Minimum Payments and your Credit

by Penny Saved on January 13, 2006

What do your minimum payments have to do with your Credit? First if you make your minimum payments all the time and they are on time, your credit will increase slightly. The problem is that it will only increase slightly.

Use the credit system to your advantage. Pay more than the minimum payment. Even if you only exceed the minimum payment by $1, the debt companies have to report that you paid more than the minimum. This will increase your credit even further. It still won’t be as much as if you were to pay off all of your debt, but it will be slightly better than only paying the minimum payment on time.
