Taxes Filed
We got our taxes filed last night. A little later than I had anticipated, but still well before the April 17 due date.
We once again filed Married Filing Joint as it made nearly a $500 difference in the refund we are getting. Not exactly a small chunk of change. Having a child to claim certainly helped as did owning our house. Of course, we spend many times the credit/deduction on both of those things throughout the year. Still, it’s nice to get a little back from them.
All told we’ll be getting a little over $1,300 back from the Fed which should certainly help on our road to a Total Money Makeover. The first step in the makeover is to get $1000 in an Emergency savings. I don’t think we’ll fully fund it with the refund as there are some other things we need to catch up on, but I’m thinking we’ll put at least half of it in an emergency account.
We did have a few issues while filing since there were a few places that I hadn’t received tax documents from. The were quickly fixed as they all had online sites where I could log in and I was able to print the tax forms off. Quite handy. I might try to get them all a little early next year this way and see if I can’t get filed a little sooner.
It’s a great feeling having the taxes filed and only waiting on the refund check. Yay!
