What does that really mean? Your parents were poor, so you just give up without making an effort? That's just being weak, not hopeless. After all, a poor kid goes to school just like everyone else. Whether he chooses to pay attention and actually learn something is up to him, and him alone. One doesn't have to have a fancy college degree to earn a good living ( though it sure helps ). I have never completed a college class in my life, yet I make more than well, just about everyone I know. Except for my bosses at my current job, of course. I wasn't *poor* growing up, but certainly very, very far from wealthy. You will never be handed anything in life, and making excuses to make yourself feel better is just sad. I don't sugarcoat things, so if you're offended, that's tough. As for the pirates remark, quite frankly, if you're abducted by pirates I highly doubt that money will be on your mind again until you're safely back home. You have bigger problems. Many can't even get into debt because they have no way to open a bank account and take out loans.
