Keep the Goal in Sight
I can get discouraged when it comes to finances. Especially when in seems that it will take forever to get out of debt. That’s when I have to remind myself about the goal. For me, just getting out of debt is not enough - but what I can do once I get out of debt, now that gets me excited. And one of those things is a purchase. Once my wife and I get the Home Equity Loan paid off, we will start saving. And that saving is going toward an RV (recreational vehicle). Now for a lot of people camping isn’t there thing. But for us, we love it. And we would love to have one of those ultralight campers that you can pull with a regular truck. So once or twice a year, our family heads out to an RV dealer and we look at the latest models and usually pick up a brochure on the one that we really like. Now for some people this could be dangerous because they would be tempted to buy. But for us, it reminds us why we are paying down the debt as fast as we can. It sort of rejuvenates us. Gets us back on track.
What’s your goal for getting out of debt? House, car, trip, retirement? Try to keep the goal in sight. Some do it by putting pictures around the house. Some put reminders on their calendar. However you do it, it is important to keep the goal in sight, however modest or extravagant or crazy it might be. Hey, it’s your goal - keep it in sight and go for it.

I totally understand what you’re saying. I got really discouraged today about sacrificing so much to become debt free. I was really tempted to go out shopping and actually charge it on the dreaded credit card. But I didn’t. I thought about the bigger picture and re-considered what I was thinking about doing. Thanks for having such a great blog that encourages me to continue in the quest.
