Sunday Thought 21

As I reflect upon the economic troubles that the United States, and it seems is worldwide, it appears that there was a lot of pride before the fall. Individuals and companies trying to keep up with each other in greed, thinking that they deserved more. Why should “everyone” else have everything – I deserve the best too. So if they can make a million I can too. If they can afford that house, I want it too. I know what I am doing – even though some of these investments are still being untangled they were so complex.
Pride. The only sure thing about it is that a fall always comes. The bubble will always burst. I hope we can keep our pride in check, that we will not have this attitude “Look at me! I am rich.”
The Lord will tear down the house of the proud, but He will establish the boundary of the widow (Bible, Proverbs 15:25).
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before stumbling. It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud (Bible, Proverbs 16:18-19).
