Provision. With our Grandparents and Great Grandparents, provision meant having enough to get by. Having a roof over your head, adequate meals, and clothing. Provision today has taken on a whole new meaning. It’s not just having our needs met, but our wants. And now today we are faced with a financial crisis because many chose to chase and make provision for their wants, rather than make adequate provision for their needs. And whenever we put wants ahead of needs, it will become a mistake.
It is important to make provision for our families. And you will find lot’s of advice on how much one should save. The basic answer is – what do you need? When we strip off all the wants, the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter are not all that expensive.
Take time in the coming days to evaluate your finances, determining what areas are needs, and what are wants. Then have a spouse or close friend (who can be honest!) also evaluate – sometimes another pair of eyes will see things in a different light. Once you have determined your basic needs, then set about a plan to make provision for them.
If any one does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever (Bible, 1 Timothy 5:8).
