Commercials. I hate them (except a few that I consider funny). They promise so much and yet deliver so little. Does anyone really believe that if you buy such and such you will be viewed highly? Or get the girl or boy?
And yet, what we buy does reflect our value system. The things we purchase do say something about us, what we love, what we treasure. So what does the purchases you make say about you? Does it say you love your family? Your spouse? Yourself? Others?
Take some time this week to evaluate your purchases. Is what they are “telling others” what you really mean to say? What is it that we treasure? And is that good or bad?
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” (Bible, Matthew 13:44-46).
