So what are your plans for vacation this year?
Last year, we did a “staycation” as one of our vacation times. This year we are planning on travelling, but are still cutting back from what we normally did in the past few years.
We are taking a trip to Niagara Falls, courtesy of a friend who is lending us their cottage about an hour away. We are staying a Monday through a Friday. Then we are going camping, but doing it locally and shortening the stay to take advantage of a discount (Sunday through Thursday). Finally, we will be going to the Jersey Shore, but again we will be staying only Monday through Friday (another discount).
As you can tell, we are staying away from weekends when there are more crowds, but also higher prices – as noted above many places charge more for staying over a weekend. By avoiding that, we are saving significant money. Also, by shortening our stay we are saving on some meals and other expenses. And finally, by keeping the trips relatively close (Niagara Falls is the big trip) we are saving on travel expenses.
