If you are in business, the words “Outside Financial Audit Review” can send chills down your spine. And if you are directly involved, it is people looking at every financial piece of paper, with hours of extra work, and scrutiny of everything you have done.
But it is worth it – they can find and see things that the business overlooks, and can really help – better financial practices, even savings. And, just as it is worth it to a business, it can be worth it to do your own “outside financial audit review”.
We are so tied to our finances, such creatures of habit, that we often overlook things in our financial picture. A fresh set of eyes can see blind spots. Maybe even save us money. Do you have a trusted friend that you could have “look over the books”? Someone to say “maybe you should cut back here, or add more there”?
I do financial counseling for people in my church. It is amazing to me that some of the things I point out, although obvious, are like brand new ideas to some people. It just never occurred to them. But someone with a fresh perspective was able to see things that were helpful. And although it is uncomfortable to have someone look at your financial life, it was helpful for them, and could be helpful for you to.
