I know you readers know this, but I had a good reminder the other day why it pays to do some comparison shopping.
My wife and I are redoing one of our bathrooms, basic cosmetic stuff. One of the things we are doing is replacing the vinyl flooring which in my wife’s words is UGLY! We went to our local big box hardware store to see what they had. For such a big store their selection was pretty small. We did find one pattern that we liked, so we inquired about installation. Wow! Their prices were through the roof. It would have been about $7.05 a square foot for the material and the installation, plus another $175 for removing and reinstalling the toilet.
So we went on over to our local home flooring dealer. Besides getting personal attention, a much larger selection, and quicker delivery, their prices were better. We will probably save at least a $1 a square foot (including installation) on a higher grade flooring. Plus, the removing and reinstalling the toilet – $50.
This experience was just another reminder that bigger is not always better, and that it usually pays to comparison shop. But you knew that already!
