Yes, beware! It has happened several times to me, where a small purchase has cost me a lot. The latest example – about a year and a half ago my wife and I purchased matching towel rack, hand towel holder, and a toilet paper holder. That small purchase led to wanting to “spruce up” the bathroom. Now over $2000 later, the bathroom is spruced up. That little decorating purchase cost me over 2 grand! Drywall repair, paint, flooring, lighting, window treatments, etc.
Joking (and a little sarcasm) aside, the bathroom is finished and it looks great. Of course it went over budget. We initially didn’t plan on adding a window treatment or a new light over the vanity, but that is how home projects usually go. I need to learn to budget for accesories!
Since our emergency fund took a hit to cover the extra costs, we will have to get back to saving and build up that reserve again.
