Sunday Thought 65

Have you ever been cheated? Has someone ripped you off financially? How did you react, what did you do? In the book of Genesis there is the story of Jacob, a young man trying to make his way in the world. In chapter 31, he is now faced with a dilemma. Does he stay working for his father-in-law, or does he leave all that he has known to go back to a country he left years ago?
He calls his wives (Rachel and Leah) to discuss what to do. He tells them that God has told him it is now time to leave. He also makes this amazing declaration:
“I see your father’s attitude, that it is not friendly toward me as formerly, but the God of my father has been with me. You know that I have served your father with all my strength. Yet your father has cheated me and changed my wages ten times; however, God did not allow him to hurt me.”
Jacob was cheated out of profits ten times! And yet he had stayed and worked for his father-in-law even though he cheated him. Because he trusted God. And God was faithful to him and had Jacob prosper in spite of what others did to him.
If God is for us, who can be against us? Do we believe that like Jacob did? Do we believe that in regard to our finances?
