Sunday Thought 66

by JD on December 6, 2009

Throughout his earthly ministry, Jesus often taught in parables to focus us on a principle. The book of Matthew in chapter 13 presents two parables back to back that describe a man’s use of his finances toward his priorities:

  • The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
  • Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Giving up everything to get that one thing that we have been looking for. Are we that focused in our life? Are we willing to risk everything we own for that one thing? And is that one thing that we hunger for worth giving up everything? If not, then maybe our priorities are wrong. And if it is a right priority, are we willing to be that committed in our finances to achieve it?

From a biblical viewpoint, are our finances in line with our faith? Could someone tell what we believe by how we use our and spend our money? Just a Sunday thought…but maybe we need to back up our faith financially, giving up earthly riches for heavenly riches.
