We had a big rain storm in our area last week. As the wind was howling, my wife noticed that our bathroom off of our bedroom was colder than the rest of the house. Upon further investigation, not only was the wind coming through (you could see your hair move!) but so was water. Here the window was starting to rot in one place and letting everything in.
So bye bye emergency fund (or at least part of it). Because we can’t swing replacing all of our windows at one time, we have been slowly replacing one side of the house at a time – that way if the manufacturer stops making the model we are using or changes the window in some way it will not be so noticeable. So we will be replacing two windows to finish that side of the house (the other window is a bow window which we already replaced and there is a sliding glass door that was new when we moved in 6 years ago).
So just when we thought we were getting ahead, another little set back! At least we have an emergency fund to help us out. Now we will have to double down in our saving to build the emergency fund back up. The only good news is that with two new windows it may cut down on our heating bill a little.
So for Christmas I am buying my wife one window and she is buying me the other. Merry Christmas Honey!
