It’s tough to go back home. People always tend to see you as you were, not as you are. Even Jesus found it tough! In Luke Chapter 4 he is traveling back to Galilee and his hometown of Nazareth where he was raised. The people at first spoke well of him, they remembered him as Joseph’s son. But they turned quickly against him, driving him out of town (and wanting to throw him over a cliff!).
It’s tough to go back home where people don’t let you change or grow up – maybe not to the point of throwing you over a cliff, but questioning your actions and decisions (even if its in the area of frugality or good financial choices). That’s why it is good to surround yourself with people who will let you grow and who will encourage you as you make good decisions. And like Jesus, you might have to move on to new areas where people will see you for who you are, not for who you were.
