ING has announced that it is adding paper checks to its services. Personally, I just received my email confirming this last week. Some of the details:
- You must order your checks through ING (no 3rd party checks)
- $5 for 50 checks
- Before using a check you must “activate” your checkbook (security feature)
I have wondered for a long time why they didn’t do this, so I am glad they are adding this feature. This was one of the things that kept me from having them be my main checking account. There are still several places that I have to use checks (remember I am in Amish country!).
I thought briefly about maybe switching everything over to them, but I still like having a local bank in the area, so I think I will keep my PNC account. I like having access to the ATM machines for free (since I don’t usually carry cash this can be handy), I do like having a personal relationship with a branch bank just in case I need some personal attention. And since I live in a rural area, when my internet goes down (which it does occasionally) I can still get access to a bank.
So for right now I will probably not order any checks from them, but it is something I may do in the future.
