As we close on the seventh month of A Penny Saved, I thought I’d share the top 5 articles on the site. It’s been a fun first half of the year with plenty instore.
Squawk Box Portfolio Challenge
This post was an announcement of a challenge by the folks at Squawk Box. I actually don’t know why this was so popular except that it was one of the first articles on the subject and got a lot of traffic from the search engines. The Challenge is over btw.
Married Couples First Tax Season
This post was a article on the information that my wife and I gathered while figuring out our taxes the first year that we were married. It’s one of my favorite articles as well and received a lot of traffic from the search engines around tax season.
New Parent Money mistakes part 1
This is post one of ten in a series based upon a similar series at MSN Money. It had a special appeal for me as my wife and I were expecting our first child at the time. We haven’t made any of those mistakes just yet.
Welcome to A Penny Saved
This is of course the first post here at A Penny Saved. Oddly enough, it didn’t make it’s debut on the favorite posts until about 4 months after A Penny Saved came online.
Squawk Box Portfolio Challenge Update
This was an update on my progress in the portfolio challenge from the first article. I believe the popularity of the first post carried over onto this post and that is why it appears here.
That’s the top 5! As always, you can read any of the most popular posts anytime. They appear on the right sidebar all the time. Keep an eye out for my 5 favorites from the last 6 months.

This weeks Festival of Under 30 Finances is up at College Student Financials. If your unfamiliar with the festival, part of the process of submitting a post is answering a question that the host asks.
This week’s question was, which is more important? Your final GPA at your college or your first real job?
Everyone’s answers can be found in part one of the festival and all the great submissions can be found in part two.

I believe that the feedburner updates are working. At least I’m seeing them on pfblogs.org. Keep an eye out for some other updates as well. I’m planning on adding a contact form and a subscribe-to-comments ability. Hopefully, I’ll get most of those implemented over the next few hours.
Also, last evening, I turned off the feature that had been previously been turning off comments on any post older than 20 days. I’ve replaced that with Akismet spam filtering so that comments should be able to be left on my older posts now.
Again, if you happen to see something broke, or the feeds don’t seem to be working properly, let me know at admin@thatedeguy.com or the new contact form when I get it up.
UPDATE: The contact form is now up. The feedburner will have to wait while I get a little technical help. For some reason, it keeps redirecting to my feed from thatedeguy.com. I’ve turned redirection off for now. If you’d like to subscribe via feedburner, the URL for that feed is feeds.feedburner.com/APennySaved . The subscribe to comments feature is still in the works.

Just a quick note before I actually do it.
I will be attempting to move my RSS/Atom feeds over to Feedburner this afternoon. Hopefully, if all goes as planned, anyone who is currently subscribed to the feeds here at A Penny Saved… will not see any difference.
If you are a subscriber of A Penny Saved… and begin seeing errors with the feed or the feed disappears, please contact me at admin@thatedeguy.com and let me know. I’ll try and get it resolved as quickly as possible.
UPDATE: The feedburner feed has been turned on. According to the instructions it may not work entirely until I post again, however, I’m hoping that this update will work for that.
thanks,

I’ve recently been trying to increase the number of personal finance/money/business related magazines that I read. Problem is that I can’t seem to find any that I really want to read month after month. I’ve tried Fortune, but it’s too much big business. I’ve tried Kiplinger’s but while the advice is sound, it all seems a little too blase and unrealistic. The one I have found that I really like is Business 2.0. Well written and actually interesting to read.
So, constant reader, what do you read? Leave me some suggestions on what magazines you find interesting and inciteful. You can even leave affiliate links in the comments as long as they lead to a magazine and you honestly are suggesting it.
Tell me! Tell the world!

Jim at Blueprint for financial prosperity has a really easy and concise tutorial of sorts on turning $100 into nearly $1500.
Using readily available promotion codes and a little bit of gaming the system, he outlines all the details of making your money grow. All in alll, the process could take several months, but it still amounts to a better rate than any of us will probably ever see in our lifetimes.
Great idea Jim. Thanks for laying all down for us.

If you’re anything like me(unrepentant technophile) you’ve probably used the website Digg once in a while. Or a lot. I want to introduce you to Flogz.
Flogz is a personal finance and investing news website that allows you, the user, to submit links to articles that will be reviewed by other users and based on popularity be promoted to the main page. When a user submits a new article it is placed in the queue until it gains sufficient votes to be promoted to the main page.
Sound familiar? It should. It’s basically a knock-off of Digg. At the moment, it doesn’t get much for use, which is evident by the 8,9, and 10 scores of the front page items. With a little help from the pfblog community it could get better.
Of course, with the expansion of Digg recently, it might not be as important as it once was, but certainly worth looking into as a small traffic booster.
