Should we give to charities (church, nonprofits, etc.)? How often should we give? How much should we give? These are some of the questions that the Apostle Paul addresses in 1 Corinthians 16. He is writing to the Corinthian church about a collection for the poor and those in need, and he writes:
“Now about the collection for God’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week , each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income…”
It is not specific or legalistic, but does set out a few principles—we are to give, give on a regular basis, and do this in proportion to our income. Simple, yet effective.
This is something our family does and it has been a real blessing to us. I hope you are following these simple principles also as you manage your finances.
